SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, LOS ANGELES – Voters in the North San Fernando Valley neighborhood s of Los Angeles are headed to the polls again for a rematch between Incumbent Councilman John Lee, an Independent (as of January 12, 2020) businessman and Cal State University of Northridge Lecturer and Astrophysicist Dr. Loraine Lundquist, a Democrat.

The two faced off in August of last year in a Special Runoff Election where Lee narrowly beat Lundquist 48 to 51%. The district represents the neighborhoods of Chatsworth, Granada Hills, Northridge, Porter Ranch, West Hills, Sherwood Forest, and parts of Reseda and North Hills.

This is one of the closest watched races for Los Angeles City Council and both candidates have been actively courting votes in the North San Fernando Valley. Lee won the CD12 seat to replace Mitch Englander who resigned to take a job within the private sector working for the Oak View Group, a Sports & Entertainment Investment Company. Lee worked as an aide to Englander prior to winning his former boss’s seat. he is being supported by fellow City Council Members Nury Martinez and Monica Rodriguez of the San Fernando Valley’s 6th and 7th Districts, respectively. Lundquist has the support of the Los Angeles County Democratic Party and numerous elected officials including Senator Bob Hertzberg and Congressman Brad Sherman who both represent the San Fernando Valley.

Lundquist lists her top three priorities as 1) Delivering real solutions on Los Angeles’ homelessness crisis 2) Reform the Los Angeles Department of Water & Power and 3) Take on Special Interests at City Hall. She was a Founding Member of the West Valley Neighborhood Alliance on Homelessness from 2018-2019. She is also a member of the Northridge East Neighborhood Council and helped organize community opposition to the Aliso Canyon gas storage facility in Porter Ranch. Lee lists his top three priorities as 1) To provide real solutions to end the homelessness crisis 2) Increase Public Safety and to 3) Expand the local economy to allow local businesses to prosper. Lee has served as a Board Member of the LAPD Devonshire PALS (2009-current), Board Member of the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission (2014-current) and Board member of the North Valley Y.M.C.A.
