BELL, CALIFORNIA – Border X Brewery, San Diego’s first Los Angeles expansion just celebrated their first year in the Southeast Los Angeles suburb of Bell. The Chicano-inspired brewery opened its doors in March of 2019 to long lines of customers eagerly waiting to try L.A.’s newest craft beer. Their specialty beers such as the Pepino (cucumber) Sour, Horchata Goldten Stout and Abuelita’s Chocolate Stout remain popular favorites while new beers were added just in time for the anniversary celebration, such as an IPA dubbed the Yuzu IPA, the Border X Ginger IPA, Belgian Cherry Wit, and Mango Sour.

Border X Brewery’s flagship brewery that opened in San Diego’s Barrio Logan neighborhood in 2014, has remained a popular hangout for locals with their impressive menu and a slew of events, food and entertainment ranging from Loteria Nights to the Mujeres Brew Club (a class for craft brewing enthusiasts to come and learn about the beer making process), Rock en Español, Latin Jazz and Cumbia Nights, and the 6th Annual Chicano Con, celebrating Chicano art, comics, super heros and Lucha Libre icons which returns in July.

Owner David Favella was doing double duty as he worked the bar and greeted residents and guests who gathered around to try the endless michelada options available for the beer flights (served in smaller taster glasses). And of course any house beer cold be spiced up with a hearty line up of six different michelada mix variations and endless toppings, with flavors like Mango Habanero, Spicy Cucumber, Tamarindo, Passion Fruit and even a Vegan Mix, there was something for everyone. Food was served by Tortas Águila and Basseriko Peppers. The Southeast’s hometown DJ and promoter Ryan “Shneaky” Perez provided the music throughout the evening.

Local elected officials were on hand to congratulate Border X on their first year anniversary and commended them for taking a blighted, yet historic building and turning it into a stunningly colorful meeting place for the community. The event drew many families into the massive tap room where children played board games and giant Jenga while pets relaxed on the cool cement floor near their owners. Favella thanked the community for welcoming them with open arms and helping to make Los Angeles’ newest tap room a huge success.
