Liam Neeson’s `Honest Thief’ Takes Top Box Office Spot

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – “Honest Thief,” an action film starring Liam Neeson, is the top-grossing film at the North American box office this weekend with $3.7 million in its second week in theaters, according to industry estimates released today.

“The War With Grandpa,” a family comedy starring Robert De Niro and Uma Thurman that was in first place last weekend, took second place with $2.5 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported.

It was followed by Christopher Nolan’s time-bending thriller “Tenet,” which made $1.6 million for an eight-week total of $50.6 million, and a worldwide total of $333.9 million.

A re-release of the 1993 Halloween classic “The Nightmare Before Christmas” was in fourth place with $1.3 million, followed by another holiday-themed re-release from 1993, “Hocus Pocus,” with $756,000.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “2 Hearts,” which debuted with $565,000, “The New Mutants” ($465,000), “Unhinged” ($425,000), “Love and Monsters” ($255,000) and “The Kid Detective” ($135,000).

Movie theaters in Los Angeles County remain closed indefinitely, but Orange County has reopened its theaters with limited capacity.
