Thousands of women are taking to the streets nationwide … and in the Southland … today in a series of pre-election marches… voter registration drives … and other actions aimed at focusing on women’s reproductive issues … getting out the vote … and protesting Trump Administration efforts to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg before the November 3rd election. Today’s gatherings are the second this year under the Women’s March banner … and organizers said more actions are planned prior to Election Day. One of today’s largest marches is set for noon in downtown L-A’s Pershing Square. Others are planned in Pasadena … Long Beach … Torrance … and Laguna Niguel.

Fans … employees … and others … are rallying outside Disneyland this morning … hoping to pressure state officials into reopening the theme park … which has been closed since March 14 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The rally comes just days after Disney announced it would lay off 28-thousand employees due … in part … to the unwillingness of Governor Gavin Newson and other state officials to lift restrictions that would allow the park to reopen. But Newsom has said he is taking a cautious approach to re-opening the California economy after an earlier effort led to a major spike in coronavirus cases that lasted for weeks … and resulted in many reopened businesses having to shut down for a second time.

A man was struck and killed by a motorist in Anaheim this morning in what authorities initially believed was a hit and run. But the driver later returned … and was cooperating with authorities. It occurred shortly before 2-a-m near Beach Boulevard and West Stonybrook Drive where the victim was pronounced dead shortly after the collision. Investigators said the crash did not appear to be drug or alcohol related. No other details were released.

A man was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy in the unincorporated Willowbrook area after allegedly pointing a gun at deputies who first observed him in a parking lot. Deputies from the sheriff’s Century Station said they saw the man with a group of 10 to 15 people at Mona Park near 121st Street and Willowbrook Avenue late Friday afternoon. They said he pointed the gun at them before fleeing. One deputy chased the suspect down a driveway and into the backyard of a nearby home where the shooting took place after the man again brandished his gun. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies said they recovered a weapon nearby.

Los Angeles County health officials are recommending that everyone get a flu shot this season in hopes of avoiding a surge of hospitalizations due to influenza … while medical facilities are still coping with the COVID-19 pandemic. They recommend that everyone 6 months or older be immunized … particularly those at high risk of becoming seriously ill such as pregnant women … children … people over age 65 … and those with chronic medical conditions.

The Dodgers will play another elimination game today after their 7-3 victory last night cut the Atlanta Braves lead in the National League Championship Series to three game to two. The Dodgers took a 4-2 lead on Will Smith’s three-run homer with two outs in the sixth. The Dodgers added three runs in the seventh on Corey Seager’s home run. Seager also homered in the fourth for the Dodgers first run. Right-hander Walker Buehler will pitch for the Dodgers while left-hander Max Fried will be the Braves starting pitcher.

It will be mostly sunny today after the morning low clouds and fog burn off. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s at the beaches … and in the mid 80s to mid 90s inland. Air quality will be moderate to unhealthy.
