Los Angeles County is reporting another 26-hundred cases of COVID-19 as the highly contagious Delta variant continues its spread. Public Health officials say the rate of new cases between July 3rd and 16th was 1-hundred-35 percent. The last time cases rose that quickly was in early December of last year … during the post-Thanksgiving surge. There were also 10 additional deaths.

Orange County is also experiencing the latest surge, with 4-hundred-31 new infections reported on Friday .. a sharp increase from Thursday’s 3-hundred-4. There are also 1-hundred-56 coronavirus-related hospitalizations. County officials are pushing more residents to get vaccinated, but NOT considering measures like a mask mandate for indoor activity … at least not yet.

A 50-year-old Palmdale is out on bail today after being arrested for suspicion of kidnapping an unconscious woman in the West Hollywood nightclub area. Fernando Adrian Diaz was arrested around 3 a-m Friday after a witness alerted police he’d seen a “completely intoxicated” woman in Diaz’s 19-97 Dodge van. The woman didn’t know who’s vehicle she was in. Relatives of Diaz told N-B-C-4 it was just a misunderstanding and Diaz was probably trying to help out someone in need.

The Coast Guard has called off the search for a 35-year-old crewman who went missing from a commercial fishing vessel off Sunset Beach. The Coast Guard said they searched more than 43 square miles with the aid of local partner agencies. The 1-hundred-foot-long boat had been anchored between Sunset and Seal Beach when the man was last seen.

The driver of a minivan is in critical condition after driving off the 73 toll road in Irvine late Saturday afternoon. The vehicle struck a sign and caught fire, burning an acre of vegetation. Witnesses told the California Highway Patrol that the male driver was pulled from the smoking vehicle before it became engulfed in flames and that he appeared to have a broken leg.

There were no tickets sold with all six numbers in the SuperLotto Plus drawing and the estimated jackpot for Wednesday’s drawing will grow to 11 million dollars. The numbers drawn were 1 … 5 … 19 … 27 … 40 and the Mega number was 8. The jackpot was 10 million dollars. The Powerball numbers were 1 … 4 … 11 … 59 … 67 and the Powerball number was 10. The estimated jackpot is 1-hundred-74 million dollars.

It’ll be warm and humid with a 20-percent chance of thunderstorms throughout the Southland today. Highs will be from the lower to mid-70s at the beaches to around 80 inland … the 80s in the San Gabriel Valley … the 80s to around 90 in the San Fernando Valley … around 90 in the Santa Clarita Valley … and the upper 80s to mid-90s in the Antelope Valley. It’ll be in the 70s along the Orange County coast and the high 70s to low 80s inland.
