Hundreds of demonstrators … including those from both sides of the political spectrum … have gathered on a street in Newport Beach, near where President Trump is expected for a private fundraiser at the estate of 28-year-old tech mogul Palmer Luckey. The host … who co-founded the Oculus Rift virtual-reality system at age 19 … has donated more than 4-hundred-thousand-dollars to the president’s re-election campaign. Many of the demonstrators are hoping to draw attention to the humanitarian crisis caused by the conflict between Armenia and Azer-bai-jan … but Trump supporters are also facing off with a small group of Black Lives Matter demonstrators.

Police fired at a group of people suspected of shooting toward pedestrians in Exposition Park, but no injuries have been reported. Officers were patrolling near Jefferson Boulevard and Budlong Avenue at around 11:30 last night when someone in a gray sedan with multiple people inside allegedly fired shots toward at least two pedestrians in the street. At least one suspect ran north on Budlong and the sedan continued south and hit a telephone pole. Police say two handguns were recovered … one in the car and one in the area of the gunfire.

Orange County is reporting nearly 2-hundred new cases of COVID-19 but no additional deaths. Hospitalizations are up slightly. County officials are aiming for a daily average of around 1-hundred-30 new cases, which would allow an upgrade into the less restrictive orange tier in California’s four-tier economic-reopening system.

Space-X has launched another batch of internet satellites into orbit from Cape Canaveral in Florida. The Hawthorne-based company’s Starlink system is designed to provide low-cost internet access in traditionally under-served areas around the world. Today’s launch of 60 satellites went off without a hitch and was confirmed at 6:30 this morning.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is keeping a tight lid on his pitching plans for today’s Game 7 in the National League Championship Series. L-A is seeking to come back from a 3-games-to-1 deficit against the Atlanta Braves and make it to their third World Series in four years. Roberts hasn’t named his starter yet, but it’s likely that Tony Gonsolin will get a lot of innings, with Clayton Kershaw in the mix as well. Tonight’s winner-take-all game starts at 5:15.

There’s a new Number-One film at the box office. Liam Neeson’s action thriller “Honest Thief” knocked the family comedy “The War With Grandpa” into second place by taking in 3-point-7 million dollars in its second weekend in theaters. “Tenet” was third, followed by the re-releases of two Halloween films from 19-93 … “The Nightmare Before Christmas” and “Hocus Pocus.” Movie theaters in L-A County remain closed due to the coronavirus, but Orange County has reopened its theaters with limited capacity.

It’ll be sunny and warm this afternoon. Temperatures are in the 70s at the beaches, the 80s inland and the upper 80s to lower 90s in the valleys. West winds of 15 to 25 miles an hour are expected later, with gusts up to 40 miles an hour through the Grapevine.
