Taylor and West were added to the nominations for album of the year. … Abba and Lil Nas X were added to the nominations for record of the year.

Los Angeles County reported another 28 COVID-19 deaths and 1-thousand-81 new cases in its latest data. … According to state figures, there were 5-hundred-52 COVID-19-positive patients in county hospitals as of Wednesday, one more than Tuesday. … Of those patients, 1-hundred-55 were in intensive care, three less than Tuesday. … In Orange County, officials announced 1-hundred-80 new cases and nine additional deaths related to the virus. … There were 1-hundred-79 COVID patients in hospitals in the county, eight less than Tuesday. There were 45 intensive care patients, four less than Tuesday. … Experts say hospitalizations are a more important statistic than case numbers because they indicate the risk the health care system is at of being overburdened.

The Los Angeles City Council has unanimously approved a revised housing blueprint that lays the groundwork for nearly a half-million new units over the next eight years. … Planners say the goal is to provide an ample supply, along with more equitable and affordable options. … The new plan will allow for re-zoning various areas in the city, clearing the way for construction of a quarter-million units within three years. … Los Angeles needs to produce about 57 thousand units per year to keep up with housing demand, but since 20-14, it has been producing only about 16 thousand, seven hundred units per year. Additionally, it needs about 23 thousand new affordable units per year, but only about sixteen-hundred, fifty affordable units have been produced per year since 20-14.

A masked group of robbers attacked a security guard and stole designer handbags worth an estimated 25 thousand dollars from the Nordstrom store at the Westfield Topanga mall in Canoga Park. … The group of at least five men, one wearing an orange wig, entered the store at about 7 Wednesday night and stole the purses, ran from the store, and jumped into a newer model gray Ford Mustang that sped away from the scene. … The security guard was sprayed with bear spray and taken to a hospital for treatment.

The president of Mater Dei High School has written a letter asking “for your faith and trust” after the family of a former player for the school’s heralded football team sued the school for negligence, alleging he was severely injured in a team hazing ritual known as “Bodies” in which two players repeatedly land body punches on each other until one surrender. … The Rev. Walter E. Jenkins wrote a letter to the school’s “parents, students and friends” declaring, “Nothing is more important to me than the health, safety, security, and well-being of all students entrusted to our care at Mater Dei High School” and that it pains him “to hear about any student suffering harm of any kind on our campus.”
