The average price of a gallon of regular gas in L-A County hit a record high, at 4-dollars, 70-point-6 cents, the highest it’s been since October 9th, 20-12. … It has been on the rise for 14 of the past 15 days, up 11-point-5 cents in that time. The previous record price was 4-dollars, 70-point-5 cents … It is 2-point-1 cents more than a week ago, and 15-point-2 cents more than it was a month ago. In Orange County, the average price of a gallon of regular gas is up two-tenths of a cent, to 4-dollars, 67-point-6 cents. It is 2-point-2 cents more than it was a week ago, and 16 cents more than it was a month ago.

Another 29 COVID-19 deaths and 7-hundred-25 new infections are being reported by L-A County in its latest data — with the relatively low case number attributed to a drop-off in testing with schools across the area closed due to the Thanksgiving holiday. … Public health officials noted that as many as 100 thousand tests a day are normally conducted at schools across the county — and campus holiday closures are resulting in a significant drop in testing numbers. … According to state figures, there were 5-hundred-51 COVID-19-positive patients in county hospitals as of Tuesday, seven less than Monday. … Of those patients, 158 were in intensive care, two more than Monday.

A gunman was killed during a shootout with police after allegedly killing a man and attempting to carjack two women in Pasadena. … Officers were called about 2:35 Tuesday afternoon to the 600 block of Sunnyslope Avenue, near Orange Grove Boulevard, after the suspect allegedly shot the roughly 70-year-old victim. … Police say it was not immediately known what led up to the shooting. The suspect allegedly tried to flee from police by jumping into a woman’s car and attempting to carjack her. … However, the man was unable to steal the car and exchanged gunfire with police before running on Sunnyslope Avenue. The man allegedly attempted to carjack a second woman, but again failed to steal the vehicle and held the woman at gunpoint until being cornered by police.

Police say a 23-year-old man was shot and killed early Tuesday in Hollywood in what L-A-P-D Chief Michel Moore says was another in a series of “follow-home robberies.” … Officers from the L-A-P-D’s Hollywood Station responded at 2:10 Tuesday morning to 7-1-8-1 Sunset Boulevard outside the Bossa Nova Restaurant. Later Tuesday, Moore told the city’s Police Commission that the crime was connected to another “follow-home robbery,” in which robbers follow people who are wearing high-end jewelry or have expensive vehicles or other belongings. … Moore says the victim was “coming to the aid of a female who was being attacked” when he was killed. Moore says the L-A-P-D will create a task force to investigate the crimes.

Hawthorne-based SpaceX has launched a NASA planetary-defense mission from Vandenberg Air Force Base near Lompoc. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launched on schedule at 10:21 Tuesday night, beginning NASA’s Double Asteroid Redirection Test, or DART, mission. … The mission will intentionally crash a spacecraft into an asteroid to determine if such an effort can successfully change the asteroid’s course. … The DART spacecraft will target an asteroid known as Didymos, which is orbiting a larger asteroid known as Dimorphos. … According to NASA, Didymos — actually considered a “moonlet” — is about 160 meters in size. If all goes according to plan, the DART spacecraft in September 2022 will slam into Didymos at a speed of more than 14 thousand miles per hour.

Gusting Santa Ana winds and dry conditions are expected to return to the Southland tonight, prompting forecasters to issue a red flag warning of critical wildfire conditions that will last into Friday. … The warning will take effect at 10 tonight and continue to 6 Friday night in the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area, Los Angeles County mountains, the Angeles National Forest, the coastal area stretching into downtown Los Angeles, and the Santa Clarita, San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys. … Wind advisories will be in place from 6 this morning until 3 Thursday morning in the Los Angeles County Mountains, Santa Monica Mountains Recreational Area and the Santa Clarita Valley. … A wind advisory will be in place from 6 Wednesday morning to 6 Thursday night in the San Fernando Valley, and from 3 a-m to 3 p-m Thursday in the coastal area, including downtown Los Angeles.

There will be areas of low clouds and fog in the morning, then it will be sunny. Highs will be in the upper-60 to mid-70s from the beaches to downtown Los Angeles and the San Fernando and San Gabriel valleys, the mid-60s to around 70 in the Santa Clarita Valley and the upper-to-mid-60s in the Antelope Valley. Air quality will be in the good to moderate range.
