GARDEN GROVE (CNS) – A vacant house was kept from total destruction as crews swiftly put out a structure fire in Garden Grove today.
The blaze was reported just after midnight.
Anaheim and City of Orange firefighters doused the flames in 10 minutes at the residence on the 1200 block of Granite Place, according to the Orange County Fire Authority.
Because smoke was pouring from the rear of the building, firefighters attacked from the front.
“The front door is the most accessible entryway into a residential structure,” noted OCFA Fire Captain Daniel Yeh, explaining this allowed crews to safely “find the seed of the fire to extinguish it.”
Other firefighters went up on the roof and cut a ventilation hole.
“Whenever there’s a fire inside, we want to make sure we allow all the superheated gases and smoke to escape,” Yeh said.
One one bedroom of the home sustained damage.
