The City of Huntington Park, California will hold an election for City Council on March 3, 2020. Three seats are open and there are nine qualified candidates on the ballot.

Eduardo “Eddie” Martinez is a candidate for Huntington Park City Council and an Executive Director at the Nonprofit Latino Equality Alliance. He grew up in Huntington Park and moved back to care for his family. That is when he started to get involved with local politics. His experience working with a grassroots organization gives him the passion to lead for improvement in the community. He wants to bring resources into the community to help those struggling with homelessness, mental health and addiction issues among other social needs. One of his priorities if elected is to improve the Pacific Boulevard District and allure new businesses to the community, establishing more places for the arts, food, music and culture. Martinez wants to promote education and create safer spaces for the LGBT community living within the Southeast area. He serves as a delegate to the California Democratic Party’s 53rd District. He is endorsed by the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor

Every elected official and public employee who makes or influences governmental decisions is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interest, also known as the Form 700. The Form 700 provides transparency and ensures accountability in two ways:

1. It provides necessary information to the public about an official’s personal financial interests to ensure that officials are making decisions in the best interest of the public and not enhancing their personal finances.

2. It serves as a reminder to the public official of potential conflicts of interest so the official can abstain from making or participating in governmental decisions that are deemed conflicts of interest.
