| Notes from the Editor: Is George Cole Leading Secret Meetings with Southeast L.A. County City Council Members to Break Away From LAUSD? Huntington Park, CA - (4-18-06) Many City of Bell Councilman George Cole is reportedly itching to start his very own school district (see previous WatchOurCity report). Reportedly, Cole has convinced elected officials from the southeast cities of Cudahy, Huntington Park, Maywood and South Gate in secret meetings held in back rooms without members of the public in attendance. No city agenda listed the private meetings. Previous breakaway attempts from other cities have not succeeded. None of them had a California State Senate feasibility report sponsored by local State Senator Martha Escutia. The 2002 Senate report confirms that a breakaway "San Antonio Unified School District" is entirely feasible. The plan goes public tonight. IS IT REALLY ABOUT A BETTER EDUCATION FOR OUR CHILDREN? See how Huntington Park's John Noguez and Edward Escareno conspired to award half of a $4million transportation contract to George Cole's Oldtimers Foundation when Oldtimers was rated the lowest of 4 bidders. They then fronted Cole a cool $100,000 in start-up costs from public funds. LAUSD board Member David Takofsky's office was not aware of the meeting. Escutia's office was. |
